In september 2018, the Korean government established the "Plan to Expand Housing supply in the Seoul metropolitan area" to supplement the housing welfare road map and stabilize the housing market in the Seoul metropolitan area. since then, plans for housing supply of about 300,000 units have been announced three times, including five new towns (Namyangju Wangsuk·Wangsuk2, Hanam Gyosan, Incheon Gyeyang, Goyang Changneung, and Bucheon Daejang) larger than 3.3 million square meters. In addition, in February 2021, the Korean government established the "3080+ Housing supply Expansion Plan in Metropolitan Areas" and announced that it will supply about 320,000 houses in Seoul and a total of 830,000 houses to large cities nationwide by 2025. As a result, three new towns (Gwangmyeong Siheung, Uiwang Gunpo Ansan, and Hwaseong Jinan) larger than 3.3 million square meters have been added. These eight public housing districts confirmed as "the 3rd New Towns" following the 1st New Towns in the late 1980s and the 2nd New Towns in the early 2000s will supply 316,000 houses in an area of about 55 million square meters. We expect that the 3rd New Towns will greatly contribute to stabilizing the housing market in the Seoul metropolitan area because these are located in places with good accessibility to Seoul and provide high-quality housing at reasonable prices.
